Over on the West side of Singapore it rained medals for Team Acme Taekwondo at the 10th National Poomsae Championship held at Jurong East Sports complex over two days of intense competition on the 4th and 5th of June.
Team Acme fielded approximately 70 players and brought home 35 Gold, 25 Silver and 22 Bronze medals.
With the best poomsae players in the country gathered in one location, there was an electricity in the air – a palpable hue of anticipation, especially in the high profile black belt categories where our seniors came together to compete for Team Acme pride.
Day 1 highlights saw our F division male black belts dominate and take the trifecta out of a field of 28 participants and our E division female blackbelts put on a good show bringing home gold in addition to 3 top 8 positions out of 17 participants. This is a great result for our intermediate girls who are new this year to this very competitive category.
Our juniors also did not disappoint as our young blue belt girls and boys stole the show winning gold, silver and bronze.
Day 2 was full steam ahead as our colour belt girls swept up all medal placings for their respective events.
Our D Division junior female poom belts clinched the coveted gold and bronze out of a field of 21 whilst our D division males achieved silver and an additional 6th finals placing out of a field of 25.
As late afternoon approached, the crowds gathered to watch our senior black belt mixed pairs stun the audience with international standard renditions of taebaek – 3rd Dan poomsae. Team Acme fielded 5 out of 10 pairs and ended with gold, silver, 4th, 5th and 6th placings.
Team events saw Team Acme take home gold for all events except for C Division male poom and E Division female black where we achieved silver.
We closed the championships with the family of 2 fun event which saw our mother and daughter team and father and daughter team take home gold and silver respectively out of a field of 9 families.
Overall, Team Acme ended the outing with outstanding results and celebrated our hard earned achievements with a huge party after Monday night poomsae training.
At the end of each competition we are reminded that it is the journey to self-improvement and team spirit that counts most of all.
Good job Team Acme! Keep the fire burning and the team unbreakable!
